Doug Ford is protecting his government from Accountability, not Protecting Ontario

OSHAWA – After Doug Ford furthered his attack on the Freedom of Information process by freezing all existing applications and decisions across all ministries, the Leader of the Official Opposition, Marit Stiles, released the following statement:

“The speed at which this premier is moving to hide records from the public is alarming. After this government’s track record of being caught in scandal after scandal, and Ontarians are now asking themselves: what is this government so desperate to hide?

“This is the same government that opened the door to backroom deals and insider giveaways, while Ontarians are struggling to afford groceries and rent. Every time Doug Ford moves to weaken transparency laws, it shows exactly what his conservative government is about: protecting well connected insiders while hard working Ontarians continue to fall behind.

“At a time when families are being asked to tighten their belts by this government, Ford and his conservatives are making it easier to make costly decisions in secret without accountability. That should concern every Ontarian.”
